Just wanted to update you on Breeze…well, now known as Lily. She came home with me Friday evening from Companion Animal Hospital in Milford after having her spaying surgery earlier that day. She was dopey and sluggish and looked ohh sooo skinny. When the technician brought her out I nearly cried – she was even cuter than I’d remembered (I know, hard to imagine!!) She settled in nicely and was so well behaved. No sickness, no accidents, and no issues whatsoever – she just wants love. She listens so well and it’s hard for me to imagine that she didn’t have a good home at one time, one which I’m choosing to believe she was loved in, even if it didn’t last forever. She is ravenous and loves her meals. I’m working on plumping up her thin frame a tad and even on the antibiotics and pain meds her appetite is strong, so I doubt it will be too difficult. She is so amazing, truly. She “sits” and “stays” and when I say “easy” she slows up on the leash. I think she is adapting to her new home well and although I had 3 long and full days alone with her this weekend (and a few loving visitors), I still hated leaving her in her crate this a.m.  She sleeps well at night in the crate with her blankets and nyla bone and I’ve actually yet to hear her bark…at all. Lol, she is a blessing and I couldn’t feel luckier.

I’m sending you a few photos and will have to keep you posted for sure. This dog is a sweetheart and I’m soo glad I found her…or rather, she found me.

If my tale can motivate someone else to possibly find the same joy I’m feeling by adopting, then I couldn’t be more willing to share!

I honestly thought that the responses from you and the other volunteers on adoption day were rehearsed, but I now see that it was just the honest-goodness truth. She’s soo darn lovable J I’m having 3 of my closest girlfriends over for dinner this Saturday and can’t wait for Lily to develop relationships with them all (and eventually each of their 4 dogs…2 bulldogs and 2 shih-tzu’s…once she’s good and healed up!!) because I know we’re all going to be spending many hikes/walks together at beaches and parks come this spring, summer, and well…forever.

I have to tell you the craziest thing – I was very set on a little dog I had found on-line way down in Texas via PetFinder.com. I emailed, called, Facebooked, stalked the organization and this pup’s foster family for weeks. I pulled up the website about 50x a day to look at her photos and co-workers and friends began texting and asking me daily to see if I’d heard back. After calling and messaging and getting not very far, I’d become greatly discouraged. I began to hear some unnerving stories about these out-of-state adoption situations and sadly realized that it just wasn’t meant to be. On a whim, that fateful Saturday, my mother lovingly suggested we just come down and take a look. She knew I was disappointed about the other dog and thought that a random trip to the Animal Shelter would maybe lend a little cheering up. Well, needless to say, I’m ever-grateful for that suggestion…as it led me to Lily and she’s a gem. Those crazy (imperfect…yet soo PERFECT for her) ears and big brown, eyeliner-looking eyes struck me hard and it turns out she’s exactly what was meant to be for me J Once again, my mom was right – and I’m pretty sure that earns Lily even more bonus points…not that she could possibly need them, Lol.

Please let me know what else I can do to help promote this amazing experience - and maybe help draw a few more people into it. I’d love to look into volunteer work as soon as Lily’s settled and we’ve got a better organized schedule together. It would be just so rewarding to give back to animals that just haven’t found their “forever homes” yet…much like you and the others gave to Lily during her time there.

Thank you for taking such good care of her,

Beth
